Fluid-level Sensing using Capacitance
|
Developed For: InsCap
Key Technologies:
Microprocessor: MSP430F2111
Communications: serial
The Problem:
Create firmware that would determine the level of fluid in a gasoline tank by monitoring
the change in capacitance of multiple "sensing pads".
The Solution:
CoAutomation created code for the MSP430 using the unique capabilities
of the Comparator to transfer charge from one capacitor to another and to
measure change by triggering a TimerA capture.
Fluid sensing accuracy increased by using a multi-segmented capacitor and a proprietary
technique for incresing the accuracy of the individual segments. Device establishes level
of fluid and then transmits data over serial connection. Debug mode allows device to
send data supporting level calculations.
