What We Do

CoAutomation specializes in creating exceptionally reliable software for devices with embedded microcontrollers. By defining microcontroller behavior up-front and coding to these specifications, we're able to produce virtually glitch-free firmware that puts an end to embarrassing "undocumented features" in your products.

CoAutomation works with companies in various stages of design, from those who are just starting their design or have an 'almost working' design, to those who have some specifications for the hardware, but only a brief description of firmware. Even if you have only the beginning of an idea, we can help turn your great idea into a well-behaved product.

In addition to helping companies architect elegant and highly functional solutions, we assist with microcontroller selection, test processes and product interoperability, as well as hardware design consultation and parts recommendation.

Microcontrollers

CoAutomation has experience with or knowledge of almost all 8- and 16-bit microcontroller families. The following is a list of microcontrollers we have worked with recently to create well-behaved products.

Microcontroller Manufacturer Description
C8051 Silicon Labs
http://www.silabs.com/
Extensive family of powerful 8051 microcontrollers; lots of different mixed-signal peripherals great for "bit-manipulation" and generating/testing patterns in I/O; some small low-cost parts
HC08/HCS08 Freescale
http://www.freescale.com/
Versatile 8-bit processor family
MSP430 Texas Instruments
http://www.ti.com/
Small 16-bit microcontroller family, excellent for battery-powered products, some parts with LCD drive, some small/cheap parts
MSC12 Texas Instruments
http://www.ti.com/
8051 with sophisticated A/D and D/A; built in serial downloader
PIC16 Microchip
http://www.microchip.com/
Popular, reliable, basic 8-bit microcontroller family
PIC18 Microchip
http://www.microchip.com/
Extended 8-bit microcontroller with more code and data memory; lots of peripherals in large devices
PIC12 Microchip
http://www.microchip.com/
8-bit processor in small packages, good for low-cost projects that directly drive LEDs and/or need EEPROM
PIC10 Microchip
http://www.microchip.com/
Ultimate tiny processor; 6-pins
